What is it about?

The relevance of advanced Japanese technology with Sustainable Actions Basin Orientation (SABO) has been investigated, using geomorphological modelling, to develop an implementation plan in Rayos de Sol stream basin (metropolitan Lima, Peru). This is a high-risk area detected by Peruvian agencies. The implementation of a SABO Master Plan based on the multidisciplinary assessment hazard scenarios will allow addressing efficiently feasible mitigation actions in that sector.

Why is it important?

This article has explored the opportunity to implement the disaster prevention Japanese experience in a vulnerable location of a developing country. Rayos de sol stream in Lima, Peru was one of the places most affected by debris flows on March 2015. Different ways to control debris flow and floods have been investigated thanks to this experience. I venture to suggest that this proposal should be included in future actions involving disaster management in Peru and It also might be a relevant example of applying in other places with similar conditions.

Perspectives

Without a doubt, this article has explored the opportunity to apply international experience in a vulnerable location of Metropolitan Lima. Rayos de sol stream was one of the places most affected by debris flow in March, 2015. This experience was developed in the framework of a Project which seek an efficient management of geological hazards in Peru. It also could be an example to apply in other places with similar conditions.
