What is it about?

This is a new discovery about aircraft nonlinear instability. So far, this issue has not been addressed in the industry. It can explain the root cause leading to many aircraft crashes, for example, Ethiopian B737 Max crash in March 2019. An experimental video about this finding can be found in Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG2-mu6I11A A PPT file about this finding can also be found at: http://www.aiaahouston.org/Horizons/ATS2019-Presentation-SS-Tang.pdf

Why is it important?

This finding is one of the several findings in the book: "NONLINEAR INSTABILITY AND INERTIAL COUPLING EFFECTS - The Root Causes Leading to Aircraft Crashes, Land Vehicle Rollovers, Ship Capsize" published in Oct. 2018 (also written by Steve S. Tang). The finding was used to explain 16 aircraft crashes in the book. There is a fundamental mistake in the current theory of aircraft dynamics taught in universities worldwide. That may be the reason why Boeing is struggling with its newest-technology-advanced B737 MAX. This is an eye-opening discovery in vehicle dynamics.

Perspectives

I hope this publication can help to avoid some aircraft crashes to save lives.
